There isn't one.
Reading has always been a big part of my life - I don't remember not reading. My parents introduced books to us when we were just tiny babies, so our love of reading isn't tied to any particular book, just to reading.
We started looking at books with J when she was just weeks old. Now one of her favourite things to do is read. She's already trying to get us to read her more before she goes to bed. If we tell her she can have two stories before bed, she usually comes back with two - in each hand!
Is there a book that made you fall in love with reading?
So, I talked to my mom about this one. We decided on a variety of toddler books including Pat the Bunny, Babies, and Peter Rabbit. She figures if you instill a love of reading early, it never goes away no matter what.
ReplyDeleteWe had a toddler birthday this weekend, with two two-year-olds. And to the amazement of some of the guests both girls were just as excited to open the books and read them RIGHT AWAY as they were to see the toys...in many cases more excited! The toddler who didn't belong to us made a bee line to the bookcase where J's books used to be when she arrived - they have since moved to her room where she has her very own bookcase (the other one had one shelf for her and she has more books than that now). We showed her where the books are now and she spent a good part of the afternoon reading books.
So maybe it's not one book that makes you fall in love with reading as much as it's many books offered young and often.
Anyone have a different experience?
Too many books to name but as a really young girl I started by reading Thornton W. Burgess animal books, followed by Harlequin Romances. Yes, that's right. Harlequin. Then Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. The first book I really remember loving was Birdsong and then The Things They Carried. This year I've read so many great books that they just make me want to keep on reading. Great blog!
